The GAVI Alliance Launches Web Site for Advance Market Commitments

February 19, 2007

The GAVI Alliance recently launched a new web site to announce a remarkable initiative called Advance Market Commitments for Vaccines (AMCs) at www.vaccineamc.org. The site serves as a resource center for policymakers, press, advocates, global health professionals, and the general public on this new initiative.

The new site explains that "Advance Market Commitments offer a powerful and cost-effective market-based financing mechanism to accelerate the development and availability of priority new vaccines against diseases that currently kill millions of children in developing countries each year. A pilot AMC has been designed for pneumococcal vaccines to demonstrate both the feasibility of the AMC mechanism and its impact on accelerating vaccine development, production scale-up, and introduction."

The AMC program will focus first on pneumococcal vaccines, and an Expert Committee has recommended that a second AMC for malaria be explored. A successful Malaria AMC would prevent roughly 2 million deaths by 2030.

Forum One provided services including web site architecture, design, and buildout to GAVI for this effort. Forum One has also worked with the Center for Global Development to promote this initiative online since 2004.
