News ReleaseForum One Seminar to Feature Speakers from NPR and DCAugust 6, 2008 At Forum One's next Web Executive Seminar, speakers from National Public Radio, the District of Columbia, and other experts will talk about their approaches to sharing site content, data, and other services via web syndication services. The session, "Web Sites Without Walls: Influential Strategies for Site Syndication," will be held at the National Press Club on Sept. 9, 2008 in Washington, DC. The session will present compelling case studies of how government and nonprofit organizations are sharing data to improve efficiencies, eliminate data silos, and extend their organization's reach. Each speaker will provide practical tips that site managers can apply at their own organizations. Andy Carvin, NPR's Senior Strategist for Online Communities, will tell the story behind how NPR's management decided to syndicate their extensive library of radio shows. Using NPR's publicly-available programing methods, any web site owner can now tap into over 250,000 NPR stories dating back to 1995. The story's headlines can be re-published in unlimited sites and web widgets as well in Facebook and Google gadgets. Vivek Kundra, the District of Columbia's Chief Technology Officer will explain why the city decided to make over 200 data feeds available to the general public. Using the DC's "Citywide Data Warehouse," people can access real-time agency data and display it in an RSS Reader, on a web page, or in a mapping program such as Google Earth. Feed content ranges from crime locations to construction projects, to child care sites. W. David Stephenson, an expert in data sharing and e-government, will provide advice for for organizations looking do more innovative content syndication or data sharing. Stephenson is a popular speaker and adviser on homeland security, community education, and advanced technology issues. He is also author of the Pandemic Flu Survivor's Guide.
